In a significant move, the Canadian federal government has announced that Ukrainian forces can use the military equipment supplied by Canada on Russian territory. This decision marks a bold step in the ongoing support for Ukraine amidst the current conflict.
A spokesperson from National Defence clarified that Canada has not imposed any geographic limits on the use of its military aid. This means that the advanced weaponry and equipment provided to Ukraine can be deployed wherever needed, including inside Russia. This move underscores Canada's commitment to supporting Ukraine in its defence against Russian aggression.

The announcement comes in the wake of Ukraine’s recent surprise military offensive into Russian territory, which marks a historic first. Ukrainian forces have begun to use their newly acquired equipment, which includes Leopard 2 main battle tanks, armoured combat support vehicles, and M777 howitzers, as part of their operations. This equipment, supplied by Canada as part of a substantial $4 billion aid package, is pivotal in their efforts.

The conflict has escalated with Ukrainian troops making notable advances. Reports indicate that they have gained control over the Russian town of Sudzha, reflecting the effectiveness of the support provided. The offensive, which saw Ukrainian military units operating directly on Russian soil, has drawn international attention and highlighted the growing scale of the conflict.

Canada’s substantial commitment to Ukraine, extending through 2029, includes a range of military equipment designed to bolster Ukraine’s defensive capabilities. This support also encompasses a variety of ammunition essential for the operation of these advanced systems. By lifting geographic restrictions on the use of this equipment, Canada is demonstrating its unwavering support for Ukraine’s sovereignty and defence efforts.

The recent developments have further strained relations between Russia and Western nations, with Canada playing a prominent role in international support for Ukraine. The decision to allow the use of Canadian equipment on Russian soil reflects the evolving nature of the conflict and the international community's response to the situation.

Canada's federal government has given the green light for Ukrainian forces to use Canadian military equipment within Russia, reflecting an unprecedented level of support. This decision follows Ukraine's recent military offensive into Russian territory, with Canada’s $4 billion aid package including key equipment and ammunition to bolster Ukraine's defence.
