Strong winds will hit the eastern U.S. on Wednesday as a major storm moves through. CNN

A massive storm is sweeping across the U.S., bringing blizzards, tornadoes, and fire risks. It started over the Rockies on Monday and is gaining strength as it moves east. By Tuesday, the storm will spread across the central U.S., creating dangerous conditions.

Monday: Strong Winds and Fire Risks

Winds are getting stronger, reaching up to 60 mph in the Rockies and the Plains. These winds can knock out power and cause damage.

Dry conditions in eastern New Mexico and western Texas increase the risk of wildfires. Any small spark can quickly turn into a major fire. Texas officials are on alert, with firefighters, helicopters, and rescue teams ready to respond.

Blowing dust in New Mexico is making driving dangerous. A major dust storm shut down highways, leading to crashes.

Thunderstorms are forming from Texas to Kansas. These storms bring damaging winds, hail, and tornado threats.

Tuesday: Tornadoes and Blizzard Conditions

Severe thunderstorms will hit parts of the Plains early in the morning. Dallas-Fort Worth may experience intense storms around sunrise. By the afternoon, the Mississippi Valley will face even more powerful storms.

Louisiana, Arkansas, and Mississippi have the highest risk of tornadoes. The National Weather Service warns that some tornadoes could be strong, rated EF2 or higher. Wind gusts could reach 70 mph, making conditions even more dangerous.

Mardi Gras celebrations in New Orleans are affected. Some parades are canceled, while others are shortened. Officials are securing barriers, portable toilets, and other objects that could become dangerous in high winds.

Snow and strong winds are hitting the northern Plains. Several inches of snow will fall from Nebraska to South Dakota and the Midwest. Winds over 60 mph will create whiteout conditions, making travel nearly impossible.

Wednesday: Storm Hits the East Coast

The storm will reach the East Coast, affecting millions from Georgia to Pennsylvania. Cities like Washington, D.C., and Baltimore could see strong thunderstorms with damaging winds and tornadoes.

Wind gusts over 40 mph will hit many states, causing flight delays and power outages. Chicago and New York City airports may experience major disruptions.

Heavy rain and strong winds will impact the Northeast. Blizzard conditions will continue in the Midwest.

By Thursday, the worst of the storm will be over, but gusty winds will remain.
