A scene from In the Grey. Expected to release May 15.
The first trailer for In the Grey, the long-awaited action-thriller from director Guy Ritchie, has finally arrived. Packed with rapid-fire action, explosions, and slick one-liners, the preview promises the filmmaker’s signature high-energy style.
Set for release on May 15, the film follows a covert group of elite operatives sent on a dangerous mission. Their goal is to take down a ruthless dictator and recover a billion-dollar fortune he secretly stole.
Leading the operation are two hardened fighters: a bold American named Bronco, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, and Sid, a cool-headed British operative portrayed by Henry Cavill. Both characters are shown navigating intense firefights and strategic ambushes throughout the trailer.
The team’s handler is played by Eiza González, who guides the mission as it quickly spirals beyond its original plan.
A Heist That Turns Into War
According to the film’s synopsis, the mission begins as a seemingly impossible heist. But things soon escalate into a full-scale battle involving strategy, deception, and survival.
The trailer hints at explosive confrontations as the operatives fight their way through hostile territory while trying to secure the stolen fortune.
The film also features an ensemble cast that includes Kristofer Hivju, Emmett J. Scanlan, Jason Wong, and Michael Vu. Supporting roles are played by Fisher Stevens, Rosamund Pike, and Carlos Bardem.
A Delayed but Anticipated Release
The project was first announced in 2023 and completed filming the same year. Production was able to continue during the SAG-AFTRA strike after receiving a special interim agreement.
Originally scheduled for an early 2025 release through Lionsgate, the film was later removed from the studio’s calendar as post-production work remained unfinished.
Producer Black Bear eventually reclaimed the distribution rights and will now release the movie through its newly launched U.S. distribution arm. Lionsgate will still handle the film’s digital and pay-TV distribution.
Another Busy Period for Guy Ritchie
The release of In the Grey arrives during an extremely productive stretch for Ritchie.
He previously collaborated with Gyllenhaal on the 2023 war drama The Covenant. In 2024, the director delivered the action film The Ministry of Ungentlemanly Warfare, which starred Cavill.
Ritchie has several other projects underway as well. His upcoming film Wife and Dog is currently in post-production, while Viva La Madness has entered production.
On television, his crime series MobLand has already been renewed for a second season. Meanwhile, Young Sherlock recently debuted on Prime Video, and season two of The Gentlemen is awaiting a release date from Netflix.
