Sonic has introduced a new seasonal drink that blends classic flavours with a modern twist. The restaurant chain will add the Strawberry Horchata Cream Slush to menus across the United States starting March 23, offering customers a refreshing option as warmer weather approaches.

Fans eager to try the drink sooner can order it through the company’s mobile app beginning March 16, one week before its nationwide release.

The new beverage combines Sonic’s well-known slush base with cinnamon horchata syrup and strawberries. The drink also includes a swirl of soft-serve ice cream, which creates a creamy texture similar to a milkshake. The result delivers a sweet flavour with hints of cinnamon and strawberry in every sip.

A Classic Drink With a New Twist

Horchata remains a popular drink in many cultures, especially in Mexico. Traditional horchata usually contains rice soaked in water and blended with sugar and cinnamon before being served over ice. The drink has a naturally creamy texture even though it typically contains no dairy.

Many people across North America recognize the Mexican version made with rice. In Spain, however, horchata often uses tiger nuts instead of rice.

Sonic’s new creation does not follow the traditional recipe exactly. Instead, the company takes inspiration from horchata’s warm cinnamon flavour and turns it into a frozen treat. By adding strawberries and soft-serve ice cream, the chain has created a dessert-style drink that feels closer to a frozen milkshake than a traditional horchata beverage.

A Drink Designed for Spring

The new slush forms part of Sonic’s effort to bring fresh and unexpected flavours to its menu.

“At Sonic, we love taking sweet flavors and giving them a fresh, fun twist our guests can’t find anywhere else,” Barbara Williams, vice president of culinary innovation and category management, said in the release. “We stayed true to the authentic, cinnamon-spiced flavors commonly found in horchata while introducing refreshing strawberry for a cool, craveable drink that feels just unexpected enough and perfect for spring.”

The company hopes the drink will appeal to customers looking for something refreshing as the seasons change.

Limited-Time Offering

Sonic plans to sell the Strawberry Horchata Cream Slush for a limited period during the spring season. The drink will come in a 20-ounce serving priced at $3.99.

Customers can check the Sonic mobile app or the company’s website to see whether the drink is available at their nearest restaurant.

The launch continues Sonic’s strategy of releasing limited-time beverages throughout the year. The chain frequently introduces seasonal drinks tied to holidays or special promotions, including themed slushes and fruit-based lemonades topped with sweet cream.

Supporting Education Programs

Purchases of drinks at Sonic also contribute to the company’s Limeades for Learning initiative. The program provides funding for public school projects and classroom resources.

Through these seasonal beverage launches, Sonic aims to attract customers while also supporting educational efforts in communities across the country.

The Strawberry Horchata Cream Slush represents the latest example of the company’s approach—combining familiar flavours with creative ideas to deliver something new for customers.
