In Dallas, Vegas captain Mark Stone swiftly returned from a two-month absence, scoring in the playoffs alongside new linemate Tomas Hertl. Their power-play goals led the defending Stanley Cup champions to a 4-3 victory over top-seeded Dallas Stars.

Stone, recovering from a spleen injury, made a significant impact, tipping in a shot by defenseman Noah Hanifin during a power play just 1:23 into the game. His return bolstered the team, contributing to their early lead. Hertl, acquired through a trade, showcased his skill with a goal three seconds after a Dallas penalty, extending Vegas' lead to 3-1.

Jonathan Marchessault, a key player for the Knights, added to the score with his franchise-record 36th postseason goal. His contribution, along with Brayden McNabb's goal and assists from Jack Eichel and Noah Hanifin, secured the victory for Vegas.

Despite the Stars' efforts, including goals from Jamie Benn, Jason Robertson, and Mason Marchment, they were unable to overcome Vegas' early lead. The Stars' goal by Ryan Suter was nullified due to an offside call after a coach's challenge.

In a surprising move, Logan Thompson made his postseason debut in net for Vegas, stopping 27 shots. Coach Bruce Cassidy's decision to start Thompson over Adin Hill paid off, as Thompson's performance helped secure the win.

With this victory, Vegas takes an early lead in the series, aiming to defend their Stanley Cup title. Game 2 is scheduled for Wednesday night, with both teams preparing for a competitive matchup.
