Eric Bana in 'Force of Nature: The Dry 2'

Australian filmmaker Robert Connolly struck gold in 2021 with "The Dry," a methodical murder mystery starring Eric Bana as Aaron Falk, a reflective urban detective drawn back to his drought-stricken hometown. Bana reprises his role in "Force of Nature: The Dry 2," a sequel only in name. This time, the story unfolds in a lush mountain rainforest, contradicting its title. While the film boasts high production values

The narrative delves into the investigation of Alice's disappearance, intercut with the women's harrowing experiences in the wilderness. Led by Daniel's resilient wife Jill, the group includes sisters Beth and Bree, along with young mother Lauren. Tensions arise as it becomes evident that all of them had conflicts with Alice, a contentious colleague. The dynamic shifts dramatically after Daniel's clandestine conversation with Alice, leading to strained relations among the group members.

The film's visual splendor is showcased through magnificent Victorian locations, captured masterfully by cinematographer Andrew Commis. However, the weighty subplot involving Aaron's childhood memories interrupts the narrative flow, detracting from the suspense. While these flashbacks add depth to Aaron's character, they contribute to a disjointed pacing and repetitive thematic exploration.

Despite its flaws, "Force of Nature: The Dry 2" offers an engaging viewing experience, buoyed by strong performances and breathtaking cinematography. However, it fails to match the captivating allure of its predecessor, leaving audiences with a sense of unfulfilled potential.
