Former President Donald Trump shared a dramatic account of a recent assassination attempt during an interview with the New York Post on Sunday. Speaking from his plane as he traveled to Milwaukee for the Republican National Convention, where he is expected to be confirmed as the party's presidential candidate, Trump emphasized the surreal nature of the experience, stating, "I'm not supposed to be here; I'm supposed to be dead."

The incident occurred at a campaign rally on Saturday, where Trump was struck in the ear by a gunman. This attack left him with a bloody face, and tragically, one person was killed while two others sustained injuries. In recounting the harrowing event, Trump explained that his life was spared when he instinctively tilted his head to read a chart about illegal immigration during his speech. "By luck or by God, many people are saying it's by God I'm still here," he remarked, reflecting on how close he came to tragedy.

Trump credited the quick response of his Secret Service team for neutralizing the shooter. "They took him out with one shot right between the eyes," he praised, calling their actions "fantastic." He acknowledged the surreal feeling shared by everyone involved, noting the gravity of the situation.

Images of Trump defiantly raising his fist while being whisked away by Secret Service agents quickly made headlines worldwide and gained traction on social media. Trump commented on the iconic nature of the photo, saying, "A lot of people say it's the most iconic photo they've ever seen. They're right, and I didn't die. Usually, you have to die to have an iconic picture."

In the aftermath of this life-threatening encounter, Trump found himself rethinking the speech he had prepared for the upcoming convention. Originally intending to deliver a harsh critique of President Biden's administration, he chose instead to rewrite it in hopes of promoting unity among Americans. "But I don't know if that's possible. People are very divided," he admitted, reflecting the current state of the nation.

Trump's experience highlights not just the dangers faced by public figures but also the deep divisions within American society today. As he prepares for the convention, he grapples with how best to address these challenges while also sharing his vision for the future. Despite the gravity of the situation, Trump's resilience and determination to continue fighting for his beliefs shine through.

As he navigates this pivotal moment in his career, Trump remains a polarizing figure, yet his recent brush with death may reshape how he approaches his campaign moving forward. With a focus on unity and hope, he aims to inspire his supporters while acknowledging the significant hurdles ahead.
