Canada is presenting its top-quality, sustainable seafood at the 2026 Seafood Expo North America in Boston. The Globe & Mail

Canada has long been known for producing some of the best fish and seafood in the world. Surrounded by three oceans and blessed with cold, pristine waters, Canada continues to provide top-quality seafood products that are highly valued in international markets. This year, Canada is set to showcase its seafood at the Seafood Expo North America (SENA) in Boston, Massachusetts from March 15 to 17, 2026.

Canada’s Leadership in Seafood Trade

The Honourable Joanne Thompson, Minister of Fisheries, will lead Canada’s delegation at the event, which is the largest seafood trade exposition in North America. The Seafood Expo provides a platform for countries to display their best seafood products, and Canada is proud to share its commitment to sustainability and conservation practices that make its seafood products stand out globally.

At the event, Canada will not only present its high-quality seafood but also share its science-based approaches to fisheries management, conservation, and marine ecosystem protection. Canada is known for its well-regulated seafood industry, and this Expo serves as an opportunity to highlight how the country is leading the way in sustainable fishing practices.

Canada’s Growing Seafood Exports

Fish and seafood are some of Canada’s biggest food exports. In 2025, Canada sent over $8.5 billion worth of seafood to 114 countries around the world. Lobster, in particular, remains Canada’s most valuable seafood export, generating over $3 billion in sales last year.

These figures demonstrate the significant role seafood plays in Canada’s economy. The country’s ability to consistently provide high-quality, sustainable seafood has made it a reliable trade partner on the global stage.

Sustainability and Innovation at the Core

Canada’s seafood sector focuses heavily on innovation and sustainability. The industry is built on solid regulations, scientific monitoring, and legal enforcement, which ensure that it remains environmentally sustainable and economically prosperous. The Canadian seafood industry is also known for its highly skilled workforce, which continues to innovate in order to meet growing demand.

By focusing on quality and collaborating with global partners, Canada has solidified itself as a leader in sustainable fisheries. Its dedication to marine conservation and sustainability sets the country apart, ensuring that it remains a trusted partner in the international seafood market.

Looking Ahead: Canada’s Seafood Future

As Canada’s seafood industry grows, its commitment to responsible practices will continue to drive its success. The country’s focus on quality, sustainability, and innovation ensures that Canadian seafood will remain a top choice for consumers worldwide. With events like the Seafood Expo North America, Canada reinforces its position as a global leader in the seafood trade.
