In Game 1 of the Eastern Conference semifinals, the Cleveland Cavaliers suffered a significant defeat against the Boston Celtics, trailing 120-95 at TD Garden. The Celtics now lead the series 1-0, posing a formidable challenge for the Cavaliers. To have any chance of an upset, Cleveland needs all its key players performing at their peak throughout the series.

Center Jarrett Allen, a pivotal figure for the Cavaliers, missed the final three games of their series against the Orlando Magic due to a rib contusion sustained in Game 4 after a collision with Franz Wagner. Although initially perceived as minor, the injury has proven more severe than anticipated, sidelining Allen for Game 1 against the Celtics. Despite being listed as 'Questionable' on the NBA's injury report, insider Shams Charania revealed on the 'Run It Back' podcast that Allen continues to experience significant discomfort, suggesting his absence in Game 2 is likely.

The Cavaliers' performance without Allen underscores his importance to the team. With only five missed regular-season games, Allen's absence has been rare. In those instances, Cleveland managed a 2-3 record, highlighting the challenge of compensating for his absence. While Isaac Okoro has filled in admirably, he lacks Allen's imposing presence in the paint, offering the Celtics some relief from the threat Allen poses.

With Game 3 scheduled in Cleveland on Saturday, the Cavaliers face a tight timeline for Allen's recovery. Should he remain sidelined, their prospects in the series could diminish significantly, regardless of his availability for Game 4. The team's fate hinges on Allen's ability to return to form swiftly.
