February 09, 2024

Dakota Johnson, known for her roles in various films and series, shared insights into her brief stint on "The Office" during its series finale in a recent appearance on Late Night With Seth Meyers. Reflecting on her time filming the iconic show, Johnson humorously described it as "the worst time of my life," despite her admiration for the series.

Recalling her expectations versus reality, Johnson anticipated a short cameo but ended up spending two weeks on set, with minimal screen time. In the episode aired in May 2013, she portrayed a character named Dakota, recruited by Dwight Schrute to replace a departing colleague. Despite her enthusiasm for the show, Johnson found the atmosphere melancholic due to the impending conclusion and underlying tensions among the cast accumulated over the years.

Johnson candidly revealed the dynamics on set, mirroring real-life office politics, with some colleagues not interacting warmly. She humorously recounted her experiences, feeling like an outsider amidst established dynamics. Johnson attributed her liberal use of expletives during the interview to a glass of champagne, prompting playful banter with Meyers.

"The Office," a beloved sitcom, debuted in 2005 and concluded after nine successful seasons, featuring a stellar cast including Steve Carell, John Krasinski, and Jenna Fischer. The series finale brought back familiar faces, providing closure for fans. Despite Johnson's minor role, she took pride in her contribution, particularly her convincing portrayal of mundane office tasks in the background.

In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Johnson disclosed that her appearance on "The Office" was intended to launch a spinoff featuring her character, which never materialized. Reflecting on the industry's tendency to prolong successful franchises, she emphasized the importance of knowing when to conclude a story organically.

Johnson's lighthearted recollection of her time on "The Office" offers fans a glimpse into the behind-the-scenes dynamics of the beloved series, highlighting the contrast between expectations and reality in the entertainment industry.
