Dave Loggins, the celebrated singer-songwriter known for his iconic 1974 hit “Please Come To Boston,” passed away on July 10 at Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee. He was 76 years old, and the cause of his death has not been disclosed.

“Please Come To Boston” became a defining moment in Loggins’ career, reaching number five on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in August 1974. The song also topped the Billboard Easy Listening chart for a week and was nominated for a Grammy Award for Best Male Pop Vocal Performance. Released in April 1974 as the lead single from his album Apprentice (In a Musical Workshop), the track was produced by Jerry Crutchfield.

The poignant song features three verses, each depicting a heartfelt plea from a man asking a woman to join him in Boston, Denver, and Los Angeles. Unfortunately, each verse ends in disappointment as she responds, “No – boy would you come home to me.” Loggins later revealed that while the story has a kernel of truth, he had created the character of the woman in the song.

Born and raised in Tennessee, Loggins moved to Nashville, where he became a prominent figure in the music scene. Throughout his career, he wrote hit songs for a wide range of artists, including Three Dog Night, Joan Baez, Johnny Cash, Toby Keith, Wynonna Judd, and many others. His impressive catalog spans various genres and showcases his exceptional songwriting talent.

Loggins also holds the distinction of being the only unsigned artist to win a Country Music Association (CMA) award, which he achieved in 1986 for his duet “Nobody Loves Me Like You Do” with Anne Murray. Additionally, he composed “Augusta,” which has become the longest-running sports theme in history, associated with the prestigious Augusta Masters Golf Tournament.

He is survived by his three sons, Quinn, Kyle, and Dylan Loggins, along with his grandson, Braxton Loggins. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no funeral service. Instead of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to Alive Hospice in Nashville, Tennessee.

Loggins’ legacy lives on through his timeless music and the impact he made on the industry. His heartfelt lyrics and memorable melodies continue to resonate with fans and fellow artists alike. As the music world mourns his loss, Dave Loggins will always be remembered for his contributions and the emotional depth he brought to songwriting.
