Authorities in New Mexico continue an urgent search for a retired U.S. Air Force general who disappeared under mysterious circumstances. The case has drawn hundreds of local residents into a large community effort as investigators work to locate the missing man.

William Neil McCasland, 68, disappeared on February 27 after leaving his home in Albuquerque. Officials say he walked out of the house and left his phone behind. Since that day, no one has reported any confirmed sighting of him.

The unusual details surrounding the disappearance have raised serious concern among investigators and residents alike.

A man connected to secret military programs

McCasland spent years working in highly sensitive military space and technology programs during his career in the Air Force. Reports have also linked him to investigations involving unidentified flying objects.

Because of his background, some experts believe his disappearance carries wider implications.

NewsNation investigative journalist Ross Coulthart discussed the case on his Reality Check podcast and said McCasland’s disappearance “is a grave national security crisis for the United States of America. This is a man with some of the most sensitive secrets of the United States in his head.”

Authorities have not confirmed any connection between McCasland’s professional background and his disappearance.

FBI joins growing search effort

Local law enforcement continues to lead the investigation, while federal authorities have now joined the effort. The FBI recently stepped in to assist with the search.

The Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office has organized a large search operation involving volunteers and officers. So far, around 600 people have taken part in the effort to locate the retired general.

Investigators continue to comb nearby areas and examine any possible clues that could explain what happened.

Residents asked to help with door camera footage

Officials have also asked residents across the Albuquerque area to review their home security recordings. Authorities hope doorbell and security cameras might show McCasland’s movements after he left his house.

Police encouraged residents to submit any footage or information that might help investigators.

In a public statement, the sheriff’s office urged people to share “security camera footage or information” that might assist the search.

No confirmed sightings yet

Despite the large effort and many tips from the public, investigators have not located McCasland.

Police say they continue to carefully review every lead.

“While none have resulted in a confirmed sighting or led directly to Mr. McCasland’s location, investigators are continuing to follow up on every piece of information received,” police said.

Search teams continue to expand their efforts as concern grows among the community and officials.

For now, McCasland’s sudden disappearance remains unexplained. Authorities urge anyone with information to come forward as the investigation continues.
