Stranger Things Spin-Off Hits Theaters First. Netflix

Fans of Stranger Things have something new to look forward to—and this time, it’s not just streaming at home. The much-anticipated animated spin-off, Stranger Things: Tales From ’85, is heading to the big screen first, giving audiences an early theatrical experience before its global release.

On April 18, select theatres across the U.S. will screen the first two episodes, turning what’s usually a couch-watch into a full cinematic event. Tickets go live soon, and if past fan reactions are anything to go by, they won’t last long.

Hawkins Returns… But Something Feels Off

Set in the winter of 1985, the story picks up during what seems like a rare calm in Hawkins. Snow covers the town, and for once, things feel almost normal.

Eleven, Mike, Will, Dustin, Lucas and Max are back to simple joys—Dungeons & Dragons, snowball fights and quiet days. But in true Stranger Things fashion, peace doesn’t last.

Something begins to stir beneath the surface. And as always, the question isn’t just what it is—but where it’s coming from.

Is it the eerie Upside Down? A secret buried within Hawkins Lab? Or something entirely new?

A Theatre Experience for Die-Hard Fans

The screenings are being rolled out in partnership with AMC Theatres, with showings scheduled in 34 locations across the country.

Special venues like the Paris Theater in New York and Netflix House Philadelphia will also host screenings, making the experience feel even more exclusive.

To add to the excitement, attendees in the U.S. will receive limited-edition collectibles—another reason fans are already marking their calendars.

Netflix Doubles Down on Big-Screen Moments

This isn’t the first time Netflix has experimented with theatrical releases. Earlier this year, the platform brought episodes of One Piece Season 2 to cinemas, and the Stranger Things finale also enjoyed a big-screen moment last year.

With Tales From ’85, Netflix seems to be leaning further into this hybrid model—blending the excitement of theatres with the accessibility of streaming.

Familiar Voices, Fresh Energy

Behind the scenes, the series comes from showrunner Eric Robles, with The Duffer Brothers returning as executive producers.

The voice cast brings new life to familiar characters, including Steve, Eleven, Max and the rest of the Hawkins crew. While the format is animated, the emotional core and suspense remain very much in line with what fans love about the original.

Countdown to Streaming Begins

For those who miss the theatrical run, the wait won’t be long. The series is set to launch globally on Netflix just days later, on April 23.

But for fans who want to experience Hawkins in a different way—on a bigger screen, with a crowd that reacts to every twist—this limited theatrical release offers something special.

Because in Hawkins, even when things look calm… something is always waiting beneath the surface.
