Kaseya, a company known for providing IT management and security software tailored for managed service providers (MSPs) and small to midsize businesses (SMBs), has unveiled its 2024 MSP Benchmark Report. This report draws insights from nearly 1,000 MSPs across the Americas, EMEA (Europe, Middle East, and Africa), and APAC (Asia Pacific) regions, encompassing feedback from both IT professionals and executives.

Unsurprisingly, cybersecurity emerges as a primary focus and a significant revenue driver for MSPs, with 73 percent of respondents citing it as a key factor for their business success. The report underscores the prevailing concern around cyber threats, with 78 percent of respondents identifying cybersecurity as a top IT challenge, signifying a notable increase from the previous year's 67 percent. It stresses the critical need for ongoing investment in robust technology to mitigate evolving cyber risks.

In light of the current economic uncertainties, small and midsize businesses are under pressure to fortify their IT infrastructure against cyber threats to maintain competitiveness. In response, MSPs are enhancing their service offerings with advanced tools that prioritize integration and automation, addressing the heightened demand for IT services. The report emphasizes the significance of innovation, expertise, and customer-centric approaches for MSPs to distinguish themselves in the market.

Encouragingly, SMBs that have prioritized technology investments and partnered with proficient IT providers experience fewer cyber incidents. According to the report, a majority of MSPs indicate that less than 10 percent of their SMB clients encountered cyberattacks this year.

Mike Puglia, Kaseya's general manager of security products, underscores the persistent challenge faced by MSPs in delivering high-quality security services amidst an escalating threat landscape. He highlights the urgent need for MSPs to enhance their cybersecurity efforts to meet evolving market demands effectively.

The report highlights the growing importance of investing in IT management solutions with integrated automation capabilities, as evidenced by 85 percent of respondents prioritizing automation. Integration between core MSP applications is deemed crucial by 67 percent of IT executives, contributing to enhanced efficiency and streamlined operations.

Moreover, the adoption of artificial intelligence (AI) to streamline IT tasks is gaining traction, with a third of respondents expressing their intent to leverage AI technologies. However, the report acknowledges the challenges associated with implementing AI and machine learning, as cited by 37 percent of MSPs.

Technology advancements, including AI, machine learning, automation, and integration, are reshaping the MSP landscape. However, attracting skilled IT professionals proficient in these technologies poses a significant challenge for MSPs, compounded by increased hiring costs.

Additionally, the report sheds light on the work-life balance of IT professionals, revealing concerns regarding long working hours and work-life imbalance. A significant portion of respondents reported working extended hours, including consecutive 50+ hour weeks and sacrificing holidays and weekends for work commitments.

In summary, the 2024 MSP Benchmark Report underscores the evolving landscape of cybersecurity and IT management, highlighting the imperative for MSPs to adapt to technological advancements and address workforce challenges to remain competitive in the market.
