French authorities arrested an 18-year-old American girl in Paris after her newborn baby was allegedly thrown from a hotel window, leading to the infant’s death. Officials say the tragic incident happened in the 20th arrondissement on Monday.

The young woman, whose identity remains undisclosed, was part of a group of American travelers exploring Europe. After giving birth, she was rushed to a hospital for medical treatment. Once her condition stabilized, police placed her under custody, and an investigation began.

Authorities confirmed that the newborn fell from a second-floor hotel window. Emergency responders arrived quickly and attempted to save the infant’s life, but the baby did not survive. The Paris Prosecutor’s Office has since launched a homicide investigation.

While French police and the U.S. State Department have yet to issue official statements, local media first reported the case. Sources indicate that the woman is 18 years old, though her full background and the circumstances leading to the incident remain unclear.

The case has sparked shock and concern, with many awaiting further details as the investigation unfolds.Prosecutors report that a U.S. teen was arrested in Paris after a newborn’s death on Monday. REUTERS
