The Vegas Golden Knights took early control in Game 1 of their second-round playoff series against the Edmonton Oilers. After the first period at T-Mobile Arena, Vegas held a narrow 2-1 lead in what began as a fast-paced and physical clash.

Quick Power-Play Strike Ignites Vegas

Vegas didn’t waste any time getting on the scoreboard. Just two minutes and 13 seconds into the game, they capitalized on a power play. Edmonton's Ryan Nugent-Hopkins was penalized for a high-sticking double-minor on Tomas Hertl. Vegas took full advantage.

Shea Theodore fired a shot from the blue line. The puck was deflected twice before Mark Stone redirected it past Oilers goalie Calvin Pickard. The Golden Knights grabbed an early 1-0 lead, silencing the visiting Oilers' fans.

Stone Strikes Again

Stone wasn’t done yet. Halfway through the period, he found the net again. After receiving a crisp pass from teammate Jack Eichel, Stone skated in and delivered a clean finish. His second goal of the period put Vegas ahead 2-0 and gave the team a surge of momentum.

McDavid Sparks Oilers Response

Edmonton wasn’t going down without a fight. With just over three minutes left in the first, the Oilers cut the deficit. Connor McDavid, known for his explosive playmaking, set up veteran forward Corey Perry for the goal. Perry’s shot slipped past Vegas netminder Adin Hill to make it 2-1. The late-period goal gave Edmonton a needed spark heading into the intermission.

Golden Knights Missing Key Defenseman

Before the puck even dropped, Vegas faced a setback. Star defenseman Alex Pietrangelo was ruled out due to illness. Despite his absence, the Golden Knights' defense held firm in the opening 20 minutes.

Battle-Tested Teams Meet Again

Both teams arrived in the second round after hard-fought first-round victories. The Oilers eliminated the Los Angeles Kings in six games, while Vegas did the same against the Minnesota Wild. Game 1 started with the same intensity and pace that fans have come to expect in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

What Lies Ahead

With the Golden Knights leading 2-1 after the first period, the tone is set for a thrilling series. Vegas showed early dominance, but Edmonton’s late push suggests a close battle is coming. Fans can expect plenty more drama as Game 1 continues to unfold.

Can Vegas hold their lead, or will McDavid and the Oilers storm back? The next two periods will tell the tale.
