An intense encounter broke out early Thursday in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir. Security forces launched an operation after receiving specific intelligence inputs about the presence of terrorists in the Nadar area of Tral, under the Awantipora region.
This marks the second such operation within 48 hours, highlighting increased militant activity in South Kashmir.
Fresh Gunbattle Erupts in Tral, Pulwama
The Kashmir Zone Police confirmed the operation through a post on X (formerly Twitter). They stated that the encounter began in the Nadar area of Tral and security forces were on the job. More details are awaited.
The operation involves coordinated efforts by the local police, Army, and paramilitary forces.
Second Operation in 48 Hours Raises Alarm
Just two days ago, security forces carried out a successful anti-terror operation in Shopian. In that operation, three Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists were neutralized during ‘Operation Keller.’
This rapid succession of encounters underscores the growing pressure on terror outfits operating in the Kashmir Valley.
Lashkar Terrorist Linked to German Tourist Attack Eliminated
One of the three LeT terrorists killed in Tuesday’s encounter was identified as Shahid Kuttay. A resident of Chotipora Heerpora in Shopian, Shahid joined LeT in March 2023.
According to ANI sources, Shahid was behind the firing at Danish Resort on April 8, 2024. Two German tourists and a driver were injured in that attack. He also played a role in the killing of a BJP Sarpanch on May 18, 2024.
The slain Sarpanch, Aijaz Ahmad Sheikh, was affiliated with the BJP and belonged to Heerpora, Shopian.
Another LeT Militant Killed in Shopian Had Targeted Non-Local Labourer
The second terrorist killed in Tuesday’s encounter was identified as Adnan Shafi Dar. He had joined Lashkar-e-Taiba in early 2024.
Security forces linked him to the killing of a non-local labourer at Wachi in Shopian on October 18, 2024. His involvement adds to the growing list of attacks targeting civilians in the Valley.
Terror Sweep Continues After Pahalgam Massacre
Security agencies have intensified search and combing operations across multiple districts in Jammu and Kashmir. This follows the brutal killing of 26 civilians on April 22 in the Baisaran meadow of Pahalgam.
