Tom Cruise has once again pushed the limits of movie stunts — this time, earning a Guinness World Record. The Hollywood legend now holds the title for most burning parachute jumps performed by a single person.

This jaw-dropping feat was accomplished during the filming of Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning, the latest chapter in the long-running action series. For one intense sequence, Cruise jumped out of a helicopter sixteen times, each time with a parachute intentionally set on fire.

16 Jumps, One Flaming Parachute

Each take began with a daring setup. The parachute was drenched in fuel before Cruise took the plunge. Mid-air, he had just ten seconds to untangle himself from the spin and ignite the chute.

Once the fire caught, the flames rapidly consumed the parachute. Cruise would then detach it and deploy a backup chute to land safely.

The scene required multiple takes because the fiery parachute vanished within seconds. The final count? Sixteen burning jumps, all performed by Cruise himself.

Cruise’s Legacy of Fearless Action

This isn't the first time Cruise has taken extreme risks for cinematic realism. From clinging to an airborne plane in Rogue Nation to scaling Dubai’s Burj Khalifa in Ghost Protocol, Cruise’s stunts have redefined action-hero boundaries.

In Mission: Impossible – Fallout, he became the first actor to perform a HALO (High Altitude, Low Opening) jump on camera — a feat usually reserved for elite military units.

Cruise insists on doing most of his stunts without a double, often rehearsing for months to perfect each move.

Guinness Applauds the Real-Life Action Hero

Craig Glenday, editor-in-chief of Guinness World Records, praised Cruise’s commitment to authenticity.
“He doesn’t just play action heroes. He is one,” Glenday said in a statement. “His success lies in his relentless pursuit of pushing boundaries.”

The organization confirmed that no actor or stuntman has come close to this level of dedication — or number of burning jumps.

Stunt Work Comes at a Cost

Not all stunts have gone smoothly for Cruise. While filming Fallout, he broke his ankle after a miscalculated rooftop jump. The scene made the final cut, showing him limp away after impact.

Even so, setbacks haven’t slowed him down. Cruise remains undeterred, constantly raising the bar with each film.

Final Reckoning Hits Theatres

Mission: Impossible – The Final Reckoning released in May 2025. It marks the eighth installment in the iconic franchise and continues to spotlight Cruise’s unmatched devotion to practical stunts over CGI.

With this latest record, Cruise cements his place not just in cinematic history, but also in the world of extreme achievement. He’s not just playing Ethan Hunt — he is Ethan Hunt, in every sense of the role.
