Brad Pitt is peeling back the layers and sharing rare insight into his road to recovery. In a heartfelt chat on the podcast Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard, the Hollywood star spoke candidly about how he reached a turning point in his life—and what it took to rebuild.

The two actors, who first met during an Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) meeting, bonded over shared struggles and honest conversations about sobriety. For Pitt, the moment he walked into that room marked the beginning of a personal reboot.

"I Needed to Wake Up"

Describing the emotional weight he carried at the time, Pitt didn’t hold back. “I was pretty much on my back, on my knees,” he recalled. “I needed rebooting. I needed to wake the f**k up in some areas.” It wasn’t a glamorous entry into recovery, but it was real. And as Dax Shepard pointed out, people don’t seek out AA because life is going smoothly.

“It’s not the winner’s club,” Shepard joked. “Your hair has gotta be on fire before you go, ‘Yeah, I’ll go hang with a bunch of dudes and talk about emotions.’”

Pitt agreed wholeheartedly. His own battle with alcohol reached its peak around the time of his highly publicized split from Angelina Jolie in 2016. That was when he knew something had to change.

Letting Go of Drinking

In a 2019 New York Times interview, Pitt shared he had “taken things as far as I could take it.” He made a firm choice: to remove his “drinking privileges.” This wasn’t just a lifestyle tweak—it was a turning point.

On the podcast, he reflected further: “I can be a stubborn fk,” he admitted. “But when I’ve stepped in st, I’m pretty good at taking responsibility for it and owning up to it.”

That mindset has become part of his healing. His focus now? Growth.

“Now it’s a quest,” he added. “What can I do with this? How can I right this? Be better. Step up.”

Healing in the Company of Honesty

One of the most powerful elements in Pitt’s recovery journey was the fellowship he found in AA. He spoke warmly about the support system and emotional honesty that came with it.

“It became a thing for me,” he said. “Something I looked forward to.”

Listening to other men speak openly about their fears and failures helped him embrace vulnerability without shame. It also reminded him that healing is a shared journey, not a solo mission.

Looking Ahead with Purpose

Now gearing up for his role in F1: The Movie, where he plays a race car driver, Pitt seems more grounded than ever.

His words serve as a reminder that even icons have their breaking points—but it’s what they do after that defines the real story.

From rock bottom to redemption, Brad Pitt’s story is one of humility, responsibility, and a commitment to doing better—day by day.
