Kravtsov, 25, was sixth in Russia's KHL in scoring last season.
The Vancouver Canucks have added a familiar face to their roster, bringing back Russian winger Vitali Kravtsov after a strong season in the KHL. The 25-year-old has signed a one-year, two-way contract, aiming to revive his NHL career after two years away from North America.
A Powerful Season in Russia
Kravtsov lit up the ice last season in the Kontinental Hockey League (KHL). Skating for Traktor Chelyabinsk, he recorded an impressive 27 goals and 58 points in 66 games. That performance placed him sixth in league scoring and caught the attention of NHL scouts once again.
A Second Chance in Vancouver
This isn’t Kravtsov’s first stint with the Canucks. He previously suited up for the team during the 2022-23 NHL season, appearing in 16 games and notching one goal and one assist. That same season, he also played 28 games with the New York Rangers, the team that originally drafted him ninth overall in 2018.
Despite his high draft position, Kravtsov struggled to establish himself in the NHL early on. In total, he has 64 NHL games under his belt, with six goals and six assists.
Maturity and Growth in the KHL
After his underwhelming start in North America, Kravtsov returned to Russia to sharpen his skills. That decision seems to have paid off. His standout season in the KHL shows signs of growth, maturity, and improved confidence.
The Canucks are hoping this version of Kravtsov is more prepared for the NHL challenge.
A Smart, Low-Risk Signing
The one-year two-way deal gives Vancouver flexibility. Kravtsov can be moved between the NHL and AHL without major contractual concerns. If he performs well, he could become a valuable scoring option. If not, he can return to the KHL, where he's proven he can excel.
For Vancouver, this is a low-risk, high-reward signing — the kind of move that could quietly pay off as the season progresses.
Eyes on the Future
Standing 6-foot-3, Kravtsov brings size, skill, and renewed motivation to prove himself. He knows what to expect from the NHL this time and has shown the ability to dominate overseas.
If his KHL success translates to the NHL, the Canucks could end up with a late-summer gem who boosts their forward depth.
The question now is whether Kravtsov can seize this second opportunity — and finally carve out his place in the league.
