The Duchess of Edinburgh stepped out in one of her most striking outfits of 2025 during a special visit on Tuesday. Sophie, 60, met with 105-year-old Royal Marines veteran Jim Wren at the Sarum Manor Care Home in Salisbury. The visit came just days before VJ Day, which marks the end of the Second World War.
Jim Wren survived the sinking of HMS Repulse and spent time as a prisoner of war. Sophie greeted him warmly, sharing stories and looking through old photographs from his time in service.
A vibrant and thoughtful outfit
For the occasion, Sophie wore the ‘Nancy’ dress by Lexy London. The piece featured a lively mix of raspberry pink, cream, and khaki green in a bold print. It had capped sleeves, a collared neckline, and a flattering tailored waist. She styled her sandy blonde hair in a loose ponytail, which allowed her gold statement earrings to stand out.
Fashion experts believe Sophie’s choice carried meaning. Neslişah Yılmaz, Creative Director of Barrus, said the look blended warmth and polish. “The shirt dress silhouette nods to timeless mid-century styles,” she explained, adding that it evoked memories from the veteran’s youth.

Balancing respect and comfort
According to Yılmaz, Sophie’s outfit struck the perfect balance for such a meeting. “It’s formal enough to honour the importance of the event, yet approachable enough to put the veteran at ease,” she said. The expert also highlighted the role of colour, noting that pink tones in a fresh, rich palette often symbolise compassion, kindness, and empathy — fitting qualities for this intergenerational meeting.
Sophie’s love for bold prints
This isn’t Sophie’s first time making an impact with printed dresses. The Duchess often embraces eye-catching patterns, whether in floaty maxis or structured midis. Her style choices often blend elegance with a sense of personality, making her one of the most admired royal dressers.
During the visit, Sophie’s vibrant look and warm manner appeared to connect deeply with Jim Wren. The meeting was filled with smiles, shared memories, and respect, reflecting the Duchess’s ability to merge her role as a royal with genuine human connection.
