Two men drowned at Mahogany Lake in southeast Calgary on Wednesday evening. Police confirmed they pulled both bodies from the water after an extensive search.

The incident began around 5 p.m. when several people at the man-made community lake noticed someone struggling in the water. They quickly called for help.

Swift Response from Emergency Teams

The Calgary Fire Department’s water rescue team arrived at the scene. Divers entered the water, supported by crews on the ground. A police helicopter, known as HAWCS, circled overhead to assist in the search.

The coordinated response aimed to locate the missing individuals as quickly as possible. However, despite their efforts, the outcome proved tragic.

Bodies Recovered After Two Hours

Divers searched the lake for nearly two hours before finding both men. Crews worked carefully to bring them to shore, where police confirmed their deaths.

Authorities have not yet released the identities of the victims. Officers said they are now reaching out to family members to deliver the heartbreaking news.

Lake Community in Shock

The Mahogany neighbourhood is well-known for its large man-made lake. Many residents spend their evenings there walking, boating, or enjoying the water.

News of the drowning has left the community shaken. People who live nearby expressed their sadness after hearing about the deaths.

Police Continue Investigation

Police are still piecing together how the incident unfolded. They did not say whether the men knew how to swim or if other factors contributed.

Officials stressed that they will provide updates once more details become available.
