Germany has made its stance clear on the ongoing war in Ukraine. Chancellor Olaf Scholz declared that peace cannot be achieved by compromising Ukraine’s sovereignty or territorial integrity. His remarks come at a time when global calls for negotiations are rising.

Firm Stand on Ukraine’s Rights

Speaking to reporters, Scholz emphasized that true peace is only possible if Ukraine’s independence is fully respected. He ruled out any agreement that forces Kyiv to surrender its land or rights. According to him, such a deal would only invite further aggression from Russia.

Warning Against Forced Concessions

The German leader also cautioned against pressuring Ukraine into making concessions for the sake of quick peace. He said history has shown that appeasement never guarantees lasting security. Allowing Russia to dictate terms, Scholz added, would set a dangerous precedent for Europe and the world.

Germany’s Support for Ukraine

Germany has been one of the strongest backers of Ukraine since Russia’s invasion began in February 2022. Berlin has supplied weapons, humanitarian aid, and financial support to Kyiv. Scholz reiterated that his government will continue this assistance for as long as necessary. He noted that peace built on fairness and justice is the only sustainable outcome.

Calls for Global Unity

The Chancellor urged the international community to remain united in supporting Ukraine. He highlighted that weakening global solidarity would play into Russia’s hands. According to him, defending Ukraine’s sovereignty is not just about Kyiv but also about protecting international law.

Peace Talks Still a Challenge

Although several countries have pushed for peace talks, Scholz stressed that the conditions for genuine dialogue are not yet in place. He argued that negotiations can only succeed if Russia shows readiness to respect Ukraine’s rights. Forcing talks now, he warned, risks creating a false peace that benefits only Moscow.

Wider European Concerns

Germany is not only focused on Ukraine but also on wider European security. Scholz mentioned that Russia’s aggression has revived fears in Eastern Europe. He insisted that Europe must strengthen its defenses while continuing to push for a just peace in Ukraine.

A Clear Message

Scholz’s message was clear: Germany supports peace but not at Ukraine’s expense. He called for patience and resilience, insisting that any solution must uphold justice and international norms. The Chancellor’s words underline Germany’s determination to stand firmly with Kyiv and resist any compromise that undermines Ukraine’s future.
