The Anaheim Ducks have made history by signing star defenseman Jackson LaCombe to an eight-year, $72 million contract extension. Announced Thursday, the deal boasts a $9 million average annual value (AAV), making it the richest in franchise history. This contract cements LaCombe’s role as a cornerstone in the Ducks’ rebuilding journey.

At just 24, LaCombe has quickly risen to prominence. His exceptional skills on both ends of the ice have made him Anaheim’s premier defenseman.

LaCombe’s Stellar Season

Last season, LaCombe tallied 43 points with 14 goals and 29 assists in 75 games. He ranked third on the team with 129 blocks. Remarkably, he led all skaters in ice time, averaging 22:18 per game.

LaCombe formed a strong partnership with veteran Radko Gudas. Together, they anchored the Ducks’ defense while LaCombe added offensive firepower.

“Today is an exciting day for my family,” LaCombe said. “I’m grateful to the organization for believing in me. Committing my future to the Ducks and Orange County was an easy decision. We are building something special, and I am excited to help this team win.”

Contract Details That Break Records

The new contract runs from the 2026-27 season through 2033-34. LaCombe was nearing the end of his current two-year bridge deal worth $925,000 AAV.

The $9 million AAV mirrors the contract of New Jersey Devils defenseman Luke Hughes, who recently signed a seven-year, $63 million deal. LaCombe’s agreement, however, extends an extra year, making it a historic milestone for Anaheim.

This record-setting deal highlights the Ducks’ commitment to building a competitive roster around LaCombe. The team envisions him as a defensive anchor for years to come.

International Stardom

LaCombe’s influence extends beyond the NHL. The Minnesota native played a key role in the U.S. men’s hockey team’s gold-medal win at the 2025 World Championships. This victory marked the nation’s first gold in 92 years.

His standout performance earned him a spot at the U.S. Olympic orientation camp. LaCombe is now considered a strong contender for the 2026 Olympic roster in Italy.

Ducks’ Future Bright

With LaCombe secured long-term, the Ducks have a foundational player around whom they can build. His combination of defensive stability and offensive threat makes him a rare talent.

Management believes LaCombe’s leadership on and off the ice will accelerate the team’s rebuilding process. Fans can expect him to remain a key figure in Anaheim’s pursuit of playoff success.

At just 24, LaCombe has already achieved franchise record status. His commitment signals that Anaheim is serious about returning to prominence in the NHL.
