Buckingham Palace will host a grand tribute to Queen Elizabeth II next year — the largest-ever exhibition of her timeless style & fashion. The display will mark what would have been the late monarch’s 100th birthday, celebrating her life and reign through her iconic wardrobe.
Officials announced that the landmark exhibition, Queen Elizabeth II: Her Life in Style, will open at Buckingham Palace from April 10 to October 18, 2026. The show will feature around 200 pieces from the Queen’s personal collection. Half of those have never been displayed publicly before.
A Century of Royal Elegance
Queen Elizabeth II, who passed away in September 2022 at the age of 96, remains Britain’s longest-reigning monarch. Her clothing, meticulously curated over seven decades, is now considered one of the most significant archives of 20th-century British fashion.
The exhibition will trace her remarkable journey — from an eight-year-old princess wearing a delicate tulle bridesmaid dress in 1934, to a globally admired monarch in dazzling couture.
Among the highlights are her breathtaking wedding gown and the gold-embroidered coronation dress, both created by her most trusted designer, Norman Hartnell. Visitors will also see the apple-green gown she wore for a 1957 state banquet with U.S. President Dwight D. Eisenhower, and the pastel blue ensemble she chose for Princess Margaret’s wedding in 1960.

The Queen’s Everyday Style
Beyond the ceremonial splendor, the exhibition will also showcase the Queen’s personal and practical side. Her familiar tweed jackets, riding clothes, raincoats, and signature headscarves — staples of her off-duty wardrobe — will offer a rare glimpse into her private life.
Design sketches, embroidery samples, and fabric swatches will be displayed alongside the garments. It will reveal the craftsmanship and details that defined her distinctive style.
Fashion with a Modern Touch
While the Queen was often associated with timeless elegance and restraint, one surprising piece stands out — a transparent raincoat designed by Hardy Amies in the 1960s. The avant-garde design allowed her brightly colored outfits to remain visible even in the rain, reflecting both her practicality and modern sensibility.

The exhibition will also feature pieces by three contemporary British designers — Erdem Moralioglu, Richard Quinn, and Christopher Kane — who have drawn inspiration from the monarch’s impeccable sense of style. Their creations will highlight how her influence continues to shape modern fashion.
“Queen Elizabeth II’s wardrobe is one of the most significant living archives in modern fashion history,” said designer Christopher Kane. “Her garments tell the story of Britain’s changing identity — from tradition to modernity — through fabric, color, and craftsmanship.”
A Royal Celebration of Style and Legacy
The Palace expects the exhibition to attract visitors from around the world eager to witness the evolution of a monarch who shaped not just British history, but global fashion culture.
