The strike came just hours after Moscow launched a massive aerial assault on Ukraine.
Both sides intensified long-range attacks, raising fears of further escalation.
Civilian Death Reported in Voronezh
The Ukrainian drone attack in Russia struck the city of Voronezh overnight on Saturday.
Regional governor Alexander Gusev confirmed one woman later died in hospital.
She was injured when falling drone debris hit a residential house.
Three other people were wounded during the incident.
Local authorities reported damage to apartment buildings, private homes, and a high school.
At least ten residential structures were affected across the city.
Russian Air Defences Intercept Drones
Russian air defence systems shot down 17 drones over Voronezh, officials said.
The city has a population exceeding one million residents.
It lies around 250 kilometres from the Ukrainian border.
Emergency teams were deployed to inspect damaged buildings.
Residents were urged to remain cautious due to unexploded debris.
Officials said assessments were still ongoing.
Ukraine Targets Russian Energy Assets
Ukraine’s military confirmed strikes on Russian oil infrastructure soon after.
The Ukrainian General Staff said three Lukoil drilling platforms were hit.
The platforms operate in the Caspian Sea waters.
Ukraine has increasingly targeted Russian energy facilities.
Kyiv aims to reduce Moscow’s oil export revenue.
Officials say this revenue fuels Russia’s prolonged invasion.
Russia’s Heavy Bombardment of Ukraine
The Ukrainian drone attack in Russia followed an intense Russian assault on Ukraine.
Moscow launched hundreds of drones and dozens of missiles overnight into Friday.
At least four people were killed in Kyiv, Ukrainian officials confirmed.
Russia also used a new hypersonic missile during the attack.
It marked only the second known use of this weapon in the war.
The missile struck western Ukraine, sending a clear warning to NATO.
Kyiv Left Without Power and Heat
The Russian barrage severely damaged Ukraine’s energy infrastructure.
Ukraine’s largest private energy firm, DTEK, reported major outages.
Around 30,000 people in Kyiv remained without electricity on Sunday.
Mayor Vitali Klitschko said nearly half of Kyiv’s apartment buildings lost heating.
About 6,000 buildings were affected during freezing temperatures.
Daytime temperatures fell to minus eight degrees Celsius.
Diplomatic Talks Continue in Background
The attacks came amid reports of progress in diplomatic discussions.
Ukraine and its allies are exploring security guarantees.
These talks could follow any future U.S.-led peace agreement.
President Volodymyr Zelenskyy confirmed ongoing contact with Washington.
He said Ukrainian negotiators remained engaged with American officials.
Defence Minister Rustem Umerov led discussions over the weekend.
Russia Launches Another Drone Wave
Russia continued its aerial campaign overnight into Sunday.
Ukraine’s General Staff reported 154 drones launched by Russian forces.
Air defences intercepted and destroyed 125 of them.
The sustained attacks highlight Moscow’s reliance on drone warfare.
Ukraine’s air defence systems remain under constant pressure.
New Geran-5 Drone Deployed
Ukrainian intelligence revealed a new threat on Sunday.
Russia reportedly used the jet-powered Geran-5 strike drone for the first time.
The drone is a Russian variant of Iran’s Shahed design.
The Geran-5 can carry a 90-kilogram warhead.
Its operational range reaches nearly 1,000 kilometres.
Officials warned it increases Russia’s long-range strike capability.
Conflict Shows No Signs of Slowing
The Ukrainian drone attack in Russia reflects the war’s expanding reach.
Both nations continue targeting infrastructure far from front lines.
Civilian areas remain increasingly vulnerable as the conflict intensifies.
