Sophie Turner is officially stepping into Lara Croft’s iconic boots. Prime Video has released the first image from its upcoming Tomb Raider TV series, confirming that production is now underway.
The photo shows Turner in Lara’s signature green tank top and brown shorts, a clear nod to the character’s original look from the early Tomb Raider games on the PlayStation. For fans, it signals a return to the adventurer’s classic roots.
Turner was announced as the new Lara Croft in September and has openly acknowledged the legacy attached to the role. Previously portrayed by Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander, Lara Croft remains one of gaming’s most recognisable characters.
From Westeros to Ancient Ruins
Turner, who grew up in Warwickshire, rose to international fame as Sansa Stark in HBO’s Game of Thrones. She later joined the X-Men film franchise as Jean Grey, cementing her place as a major Hollywood star.
Now, she takes on one of entertainment’s most enduring action heroes, bringing fresh energy to a role with decades of history.
Her casting as Lara Croft marks another high-profile role, but one rooted in a very different legacy. Lara Croft is one of gaming’s most recognizable characters, with a history spanning nearly three decades.

Big Names Join the Adventure
The series boasts an impressive cast. Alien star Sigourney Weaver is set to appear, alongside The White Lotus actor Jason Isaacs. Celia Imrie, recently seen on Celebrity Traitors, also joins the lineup.
The show is written by Phoebe Waller-Bridge, the creative force behind Fleabag. Her involvement has added to the excitement, promising a sharper and more character-driven take on the franchise.
Why Lara Croft Still Matters
First released in 1996, Tomb Raider was developed by UK studio Core Design. Lara Croft quickly became a cultural phenomenon at a time when female game heroes were rare.
She appeared on magazine covers worldwide and helped redefine how women were represented in video games. The franchise was rebooted in 2013 with a more grounded and emotionally complex version of Lara.
Gaming Adaptations Are Booming
Tomb Raider arrives during a surge in successful video game adaptations. Prime Video recently scored a major hit with Fallout and has confirmed a God of War series, with Ryan Hurst cast as Kratos.
These adaptations often reignite interest in the games themselves. Reflecting that trend, Tomb Raider developer Crystal Dynamics has announced two new titles, including a reimagined version of Lara’s first adventure and a new story set in Northern India.
With Turner’s classic look now revealed, anticipation for the series is growing fast. Lara Croft is back, and fans are ready for the adventure.
