Canadians looking for a more affordable lunch option may soon find relief at the drive-thru. Popeyes has reintroduced its popular seafood lineup for a limited time, along with new flavours and the return of a much-loved side dish.

The Louisiana-style chain has brought back several spring menu items, including the Flounder Fish Sandwich, Butterfly Shrimp Tacklebox and the Surf & Turf combo. Customers can now order these items at participating locations while supplies last.

Classic Seafood Returns

The Flounder Fish Sandwich first appeared in 2021 and quickly gained a following. The sandwich features a hand-battered Alaska flounder fillet served on a soft brioche bun. Guests can choose between classic tartar sauce or a spicy spread.

Seafood fans may also enjoy the Butterfly Shrimp Tacklebox. The meal includes eight crispy butterfly shrimp coated in the brand’s signature blend of herbs and spices. It comes with one regular side and a biscuit.

For those who want both seafood and chicken, the Surf & Turf option combines four butterfly shrimp with two chicken tenders, along with a side and a biscuit.

Each meal starts at $5.99, offering a lower-cost alternative to many fast-casual lunch options.

New Dry Rub Flavours

This year, Popeyes has added four new dry rub choices for shrimp orders: garlic parmesan, lemon pepper, buffalo shrimp and ghost pepper. Customers can select these flavours with the Tacklebox or Surf & Turf meals, or order them as a side.

Bobby O’Brien, head chef of culinary innovation, said the new flavours build on what customers already enjoy. “The highly anticipated annual return of Popeyes’ fan-favorite seafood is here, with some new additions,” he said. “These dry-rub additions deliver the same Popeyes flavor fans love from our wings, and we’re excited for Popeyes guests to enjoy this new twist on a brand classic.”

A Seasonal Tradition

Fish sandwiches often return to menus during spring, especially around Lent, when some Christians avoid red meat on Fridays. Since the early 1960s, many restaurant chains have introduced seafood options during this period to meet demand.

Popeyes has earned praise for its Cajun-inspired approach. Each fillet and shrimp piece receives a coating of the chain’s well-known seasoning blend before frying.

Fried Pickles Make a Comeback

Alongside the seafood menu, Popeyes has also brought back fried pickles. The crispy slices feature a golden coating and come with ranch dipping sauce. Priced at $3.99, the side first launched last spring and quickly became a customer favourite.

Affordable Lunch Option

With many quick lunch options now costing $15 or more, Popeyes hopes its spring seafood menu will attract budget-conscious diners. The combination of lower pricing, bold flavours and limited-time availability may encourage customers to try something different this season.

The seafood items and fried pickles are available for a limited time at participating locations.
