Yoko Ono, a pioneering artist, filmmaker, and musician, has been honored with the Edward MacDowell Medal by the renowned artist residency program, MacDowell.

The prestigious award recognizes her lifetime achievements, joining previous recipients like Stephen Sondheim and Toni Morrison. MacDowell's board chair, Nell Painter, praised Ono's unparalleled contributions over seven decades, spanning various forms of artistic expression and advocating for peace, feminism, and migrants' rights.

Ono's son, Sean Ono Lennon, expressed pride in his mother's recognition and legacy. Despite her limited public appearances in recent years, Ono's influential career, from her involvement in the Fluxus movement to her collaborations with John Lennon and solo ventures in visual and recording art, continues to resonate globally. Although she won't attend the July awards ceremony, her music manager will accept the accolade on her behalf.
