In Ottawa, a gripping hockey match unfolded Thursday night between the Toronto Maple Leafs and the Ottawa Senators, culminating in a 4-3 victory for the Maple Leafs. The game was marked by intense moments, especially when Toronto's Joseph Woll, showcasing an impressive performance with 29 saves, left the ice midway through the third period due to an apparent injury sustained while blocking a shot from Drake Batherson.

Toronto held a narrow 3-2 lead at Woll's departure, but William Nylander's goal with 6:57 left in the game bolstered the Leafs' position, securing the win for the team with a 13-6-4 record this season.

The Maple Leafs' scoring efforts were well-distributed among players, with Mitch Marner, David Kampf, Calle Jarnkrok, and Nylander all contributing goals. Martin Jones stepped in for Woll, making nine saves during his relief time.

On the Senators' side, Josh Norris, Jacob Bernard-Docker, and Claude Giroux found the net, but it wasn't enough to overtake the Leafs. Anton Forsberg made 18 saves in the losing effort.

Jarnkrok extended Toronto's lead to 3-1 early in the third period, securing his sixth goal of the season and completing a streak of three unanswered goals by the Maple Leafs. However, Bernard-Docker swiftly narrowed the gap with his first NHL goal just minutes later.

Nylander's decisive wrist shot widened the Leafs' lead to 4-2. Despite Giroux's late goal for the Senators, bringing the score to 4-3 with less than two minutes remaining, Ottawa couldn't complete the comeback, even with Forsberg pulled and a power play opportunity in the final seconds.

The game's dynamics were intense, with Marner leveling the score for Toronto in the second period and Kampf later nudging the Leafs ahead before the intermission.

A noteworthy statistic leading into the game was Toronto's consistent performance, securing points in all but one game since their previous clash with Ottawa on November 8th.

On the sidelines, Senators' defenseman Thomas Chabot missed his second consecutive game due to an undisclosed injury, awaiting MRI results. Meanwhile, Mark Kastelic returned to practice after an injury on December 2nd. Leafs' goaltender Ilya Samsonov was absent due to illness, not dressing for the game.

The match showcased a thrilling showdown between the Maple Leafs and the Senators, marked by an injury to Woll, determined play on both sides, and ultimately, a narrow victory for Toronto.
