Key Canadian Business Events to Watch This Week

Roots Earnings Report Roots Corp., the clothing retailer, will publish its first-quarter financial results and host a conference call with investors and analysts on Monday. This follows a fourth-quarter profit of $14.6 million, an increase from $13 million the previous year, despite a nearly three percent decline in total sales.

Dollarama Financials and Shareholder Meeting Dollarama Inc. is set to release its first-quarter results and conduct its annual shareholder meeting on Wednesday. The retailer has seen a boost as budget-conscious shoppers turn to Dollarama for affordable deals.

Bank of Canada Activities Bank of Canada Governor Tiff Macklem will participate in a panel at the Conference of Montreal on Wednesday. Additionally, Deputy Governor Sharon Kozicki will address the Canadian Association for Business Economics in Ottawa on Thursday. These events follow the central bank's recent decision to cut its key interest rate by a quarter percentage point to 4.75 percent.

Household Debt Statistics Statistics Canada will release the national balance sheet and financial flow accounts for the first quarter on Thursday. This report will feature the closely monitored household-debt-to-income ratio, which indicates how much Canadians owe compared to their income.

Economic Data Releases The economic outlook for Canada in the second quarter will be clearer with upcoming key data releases. On Friday, Statistics Canada will publish its monthly survey of manufacturing and wholesale trade figures for April.
