In Kampala, Uganda, a 70-year-old woman named Safina Namukwaya has welcomed twins into the world, becoming one of the world's oldest new mothers. The remarkable event occurred after Namukwaya underwent fertility treatment at a hospital in the capital, where she gave birth to a boy and a girl via cesarean section on Wednesday. Arthur Matsiko, the spokesperson for the Women's Hospital International and Fertility Center, confirmed the details of this extraordinary birth.

Namukwaya's successful delivery reflects her health and vitality, as she is reportedly talking and walking around the hospital as instructed by medical staff. This event marks her second experience with in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment at the same facility, as she had previously given birth to a daughter in 2020 through a similar process.

The Women's Hospital International and Fertility Center, led by a prominent gynecologist in the East African region, specializes in assisting couples facing challenges in conceiving. Namukwaya's case stands out as she is now recognized as the oldest woman to have given birth at this hospital.

Advancements in IVF research have contributed to improved success rates in fertility treatments. Notably, media reports have previously highlighted a 73-year-old woman in southern India who gave birth to twin girls in 2019 after undergoing IVF care. Namukwaya's recent experience adds another remarkable chapter to the growing instances of older women successfully embracing motherhood through assisted reproductive technologies.
