Alan Ritchson, known for his roles in various TV shows, has opened up about his challenging journey to fame in a candid conversation with The Hollywood Reporter. The 41-year-old actor revealed his ongoing battle with bipolar disorder and ADHD, recounting a suicide attempt in 2019, which he credits his children for helping him through. He also bravely shared his experience as a survivor of sexual assault.

Recalling his time as a model before transitioning fully into acting, Ritchson didn't mince words about the dark side of the modeling industry. He likened it to "legalized sex trafficking," highlighting the lack of regulation and the prevalent exploitation of models, often subjected to horrific environments and sexual abuse.

Ritchson recounted a distressing incident during a nude shoot tied to a promising campaign offer, where he was assaulted by a prominent photographer. This traumatic experience led him to abruptly quit modeling and pursue acting full-time, though it left lasting scars.

Despite the challenges, Ritchson's acting career saw gradual success, with notable roles in TV series like "Smallville," "Blue Mountain State," and "Titans" before landing his lead role in "Reacher."

However, his journey wasn't without further struggles. A business setback triggered an existential crisis, culminating in his suicide attempt. He revealed how the image of his children in the future persuaded him to choose life.

Following his suicide attempt, Ritchson was diagnosed with bipolar disorder at the age of 36, a diagnosis he has since openly discussed. He has also been diagnosed with ADHD, and he manages his mental health with weekly visits to a psychiatrist, supported by his wife of nearly 20 years, Catherine, and his assistant.

Despite the challenges posed by his mental health conditions, Ritchson finds purpose in sharing his experiences on his YouTube channel, aiming to support others facing similar struggles.

Outside of his career, Ritchson cherishes his family life, particularly his relationship with his wife Catherine, whom he described as a beacon of positivity and influence in his life.

In a heartfelt birthday message to Catherine, Ritchson expressed gratitude for her unwavering support and credited her with inspiring him to be his best self. He concluded with a sweet sentiment, looking forward to many more years together.

Alan Ritchson's journey is one of resilience, from overcoming the traumas of his past to finding purpose in advocating for mental health awareness and cherishing his family life. Through his openness and determination, he offers hope and support to others navigating similar challenges.
