Employees at Amcor, a global packaging company, have initiated temporary strikes in Quebec, with picket lines being set up starting Sunday. The CSN union, representing 97 workers at Amcor, has organized these four-hour strikes as part of ongoing labor disputes, with similar half-day walkouts scheduled for subsequent days, including Monday.
According to Stéphanie Boulay, the union president, salary issues remain the primary point of contention after eight months of negotiations. Other areas of disagreement include personal leave, group insurance, and seniority rights.
Amcor's factory in Saint-Césaire, situated approximately 50 kilometers southeast of Montreal in Quebec's Montérégie region, produces screw caps for wine and liquor bottles. The job actions have raised questions about potential impacts on operations at the SAQ, the province's alcohol distributor, although the corporation has yet to determine the extent of any disruptions.
