Andrea Bocelli is a voice that resonates globally, touching hearts across generations and cultures. His powerful tenor can evoke deep emotions with just a few notes, especially when he sings “Con Te Partirò,” known in English as “Time to Say Goodbye.” This year marks a significant milestone for the artist as he celebrates three decades in the music industry with the release of a new compilation album, “Duets.” This album includes both classic collaborations and fresh pairings, along with some surprising modern covers. Additionally, a concert film titled “Andrea Bocelli 30: The Celebration” is set to hit theaters this Friday.

Bocelli explains his choice of duets, saying, “Since I was a child, I’ve loved voices, and I enjoy sharing the stage with the best artists. This album showcases the finest duets of my career.” It features iconic songs, including “The Prayer” with Celine Dion and “Perfect” with Ed Sheeran, all remastered for improved sound quality. He emphasizes the importance of being recognizable in music and conveying emotion through his performances.

The collaboration with Sheeran was particularly notable. Bocelli recalls that when he first sang “Perfect,” Sheeran was not pleased with his pop-style rendition. The two then met at Bocelli's home in Tuscany, where they reworked the song into a version that better showcased Bocelli’s operatic style, which ultimately led to its success.

Reflecting on who he would have liked to include in the “Duets” collection, Bocelli mentions legendary artists who passed away before his career began, such as Maria Callas and Renata Tebaldi.

Throughout his career, Bocelli has performed for various dignitaries, including presidents and popes, and has captivated audiences in sold-out arenas around the world. With nearly 90 million records sold, he acknowledges, “Reality has surpassed my wildest dreams.” Yet, he prefers to look forward rather than dwell on the past. “I like to think about the future. Honestly, nostalgia for the past isn’t my style,” he shares, noting that his first time on stage feels like just yesterday.

Looking ahead, Bocelli contemplates his legacy, quoting an Italian saying: “The people who come after us will judge us.” He appreciates the affection his audience has shown him and feels fulfilled when fans thank him for his music.

The album “Duets” showcases Bocelli singing in multiple languages, including Italian, English, French, and Spanish. While he laughs about his challenging attempt to sing in Chinese, he embraces the diversity of languages and genres, collaborating with artists ranging from Latin stars like Karol G and Jennifer Lopez to country singers Chris Stapleton and Shania Twain. Although he expresses a desire to explore jazz, he acknowledges that it requires a deep, immersive experience that he feels he hasn’t yet achieved.

As he reflects on his journey, Bocelli aims to honor the love he has received from his audience while also seeking to deserve the affection of God, which he finds to be a greater challenge.

Bocelli's commitment to his fans continues as he prepares for his U.S. tour, starting in San Diego on December 4. The tour will extend through the month, with additional dates scheduled for February and June 2025, concluding in Napa Valley, California, on June 21 and 22.
