Sir Andy Murray has announced he will retire from tennis following the 2024 Paris Olympics. The renowned British player, known for his impressive career, will compete in both singles and doubles during this final tournament.
Murray, who has enjoyed a distinguished career, shared the news on X (formerly Twitter), saying: “Arrived in Paris for my last ever tennis tournament. Competing for Team GB has been by far the most memorable weeks of my career and I’m extremely proud to get to do it one final time!”

Andy Murray's career highlights include three Grand Slam titles. He clinched his first Grand Slam win at the 2012 US Open and then broke Britain's 77-year Wimbledon drought by winning in 2013. He followed up with another Wimbledon title in 2016. Reflecting on his 2013 victory, Murray noted the intense challenge he faced and his satisfaction in overcoming it. "It was an unbelievably tough match, so many long games. How I managed to come through that last game... it was unbelievable," he said.

Murray is also a five-time Australian Open runner-up and has reached the French Open final. In addition to his Grand Slam successes, he has won two Olympic gold medals. His journey in tennis began with a notable semi-final and final appearance at the 2008 US Open.

The announcement of Murray’s retirement comes after a series of physical struggles. He has undergone two hip surgeries: one in 2018 and a more extensive hip resurfacing surgery in 2019. These surgeries were necessary due to persistent pain from a severe injury. Despite these challenges, Murray remained focused on his game. "For now, I’m still focused on playing tennis and winning matches," he told in 2022.

Murray’s support network has played a crucial role in his career. He has often credited his mother, Judy Murray, and his wife, Kim, for their unwavering support. Kim Murray has been a constant presence at major tournaments, and Andy has expressed his gratitude for her sacrifices. "We’ve never asked for that [media attention]. It’s not something she courts," he said, acknowledging her contributions to his career.

Throughout his career, Murray has worked with several coaches, with Ivan Lendl being one of the most notable. Lendl helped Murray achieve significant victories, including his Wimbledon titles and Olympic gold medals. After their first stint together from 2011 to 2014, Lendl rejoined Murray’s team in 2016, contributing to his second Wimbledon win. They parted ways in 2017, but Lendl's impact on Murray’s career remains significant.

In recent years, Murray has worked with Jonny O'Mara and Mark Hilton, who joined his coaching team in 2022. Their dedication and support have been instrumental in Murray’s continued pursuit of excellence.

As Murray prepares for his final tournament in Paris, fans and fellow players alike will be watching closely, celebrating his remarkable career and his final chapter on the tennis court.
