In what has been a challenging season for Barcelona, the recent defeat against Real Madrid in the Supercopa has raised concerns among fans and pundits alike. The loss marked Barcelona's second defeat to their arch-rivals this season, with their only chance for redemption set for April 21 in a La Liga clash at the Bernabeu.

Despite the setback, Barcelona's sporting director, Deco, has affirmed that there is no imminent threat to manager Xavi's position. According to Deco, it's just one defeat, and Xavi continues to enjoy the trust and support from the president and everyone within the club. The disappointment in losing the 2023 Supercopa, which initially hinted at the beginning of a prosperous era under Xavi, has now turned into a low point in his tenure.

Critics point to the fact that the current Barcelona squad is essentially Xavi's team, assembled with significant input from the manager himself. While Xavi has received substantial financial backing, the team's on-field progress has not matched the investment. Despite a successful previous season that saw Barcelona clinch the La Liga title after a four-year drought, expectations were high for a noticeable improvement this year, especially with the younger players gaining more experience in Xavi's methods.

Questions about Xavi's future linger, but a swift decision on his tenure is not anticipated. President Joan Laporta has reiterated his faith in Xavi throughout the season, and the recent Clasico defeat is unlikely to prompt an immediate change. Complicating matters further is the absence of a clear alternative within the club and Barcelona's constrained financial situation, making a managerial change less feasible.

The initial plan was to trust Xavi until the end of the season, conducting a comprehensive assessment of the team's progress in the summer. Sources indicate that decisions will be based on football considerations, and the summer timeframe aligns better with planning a potential new project.

The recent defeat in Saudi Arabia adds to the challenges facing Xavi. Less than a year ago, he seemed to have the upper hand over Real Madrid's coach, Ancelotti, winning three consecutive Clasicos. However, Ancelotti's experience and astute decision-making have shifted the balance, resulting in Madrid's third straight victory in the fixture.

The standout performer in the recent Clasico was Madrid's Vinicius Jr, who scored a hat-trick in record time. This exceptional performance raises questions about Barcelona's defensive vulnerabilities, as their offside trap, effective in the previous season, failed to contain Madrid's attacking prowess. The absence of key players like Gavi and Sergio Busquets has further compounded Barcelona's struggles, leaving Xavi with the task of addressing defensive lapses or reconsidering his tactical approach against top-tier opponents.
