BlendJet is recalling millions of portable blenders due to potential laceration and fire hazards, after receiving dozens of injury reports, says the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC).

The recall involves around 4.8 million blenders in the U.S., with approximately 117,000 units sold in Canada. The BlendJet 2 Portable Blenders are reported to pose risks of overheating, catching fire, and experiencing blade breakage during use.

The CPSC has received 329 reports of blade breakages, 17 incidents of overheating or fires resulting in $150,000 US in property damage claims, 49 reports of minor burn injuries, and one laceration injury. Consumers are urged to cease using the recalled blenders immediately and contact BlendJet for a free base unit replacement.

The recall specifically applies to older BlendJet 2 blenders, and the company notes that updated models with improved components are currently available for purchase and are not subject to removal. To determine if their blender is affected, consumers can check serial numbers or contact BlendJet through their website.

All those malfunctioned blenders were sold between October 2020 and November 2023 online and at various retailers, including Costco, Walmart, and Target.
