Rock star Bret Michaels may change some tour dates after a recent health issue. The 62-year-old singer, currently touring across North America, opened up about a serious diabetes scare he experienced at a show in Washington, Pennsylvania, on June 27.
Michaels thanked his fans for their support before explaining the incident. He said his blood sugar levels dropped too low before going on stage, but he didn’t want to disappoint anyone.
Performs Despite Low Blood Sugar
“There was a packed pre-show meet and greet,” he wrote. “Even though I felt my sugar was low, I was excited to meet everyone.”
He pushed through the show and even added a few extra songs to prove he could handle it. However, when he got off stage, his blood sugar level was only 39 — a dangerously low number. According to medical guidelines, anything under 54 is considered severe.
Living with Diabetes Since Childhood
Michaels has had type 1 diabetes since he was six. Over the years, he has faced many ups and downs with his condition. In his message, he promised fans he would start putting his health first and might need to rearrange some shows.
“I vow to take the time I need,” he said. “Please forgive me if I move some dates around until I get this under control.”
Tour Schedule Takes a Toll
The singer called his current tour schedule “completely insane.” One night he’s performing in Pennsylvania, the next in Montana, then Oklahoma, and so on. The constant travel and pressure make it hard to manage his health.
Still, Michaels made it clear how thankful he is for his fans and the support he receives at every show. “I love the music, the shows, and the fans,” he wrote. “But some changes have to be made.”
High Energy Show in Oklahoma
After his performance at the WinStar World Casino in Oklahoma on June 28, he posted again. He thanked the crowd and the venue for an incredible night. “The energy and passion were unstoppable,” he said, sharing a photo from the show. He also said he’s already excited to return next year.
Upcoming Show Still On
Despite the scare, Michaels still plans to perform next on July 5 in Spokane, Washington. Fans are hopeful he continues to stay healthy and brings the same passion to every stage he steps on.
