Paris traded croissants for corsets on Wednesday as Bridgerton unveiled its much-anticipated fourth season in the French capital — a glamorous surprise for fans of the famously English period drama.
Hundreds of devotees lined up outside the Palais Brongniart, which was transformed into a pastel-hued fantasy complete with floral columns, sweeping staircases and an English garden–inspired runway. The scene felt less like a press event and more like a Regency-era ball dropped into the heart of Paris.

A Love Story With a Fairytale Twist
Season four shifts focus to Benedict Bridgerton, the family’s charismatic second son, played by Luke Thompson. His romantic arc draws inspiration from Cinderella — but with sharper edges and deeper social stakes.
Australian-Korean actor Yerin Ha, who joins the cast as Sophie Baek, teased that the season blends romance with rebellion. Sophie captures Benedict’s heart while hiding a secret: she is, in fact, a servant living under the control of a cruel stepmother.
“It’s Cinderella, but not quite,” Ha said. “It’s really a class struggle and a forbidden love story.”

Darker Themes Beneath the Silk and Scandal
While Bridgerton is known for its opulent gowns and swoon-worthy romances, the new season promises to dig deeper. Alongside Benedict and Sophie’s love story, the show tackles themes of power imbalance, social hierarchy, disability, sexual agency, and life beyond traditional expectations — even touching on women’s sexuality after menopause.

Sophie’s intimidating stepmother is played by Katie Leung, best known for her role as Cho Chang in the Harry Potter films, adding another familiar face to the ensemble.

A Global Hit That Keeps Growing
Since its debut in 2020, Bridgerton has been a streaming powerhouse, consistently landing in Netflix’s global Top 10 and redefining the period drama for modern audiences. The series is adapted from the bestselling novels by Julia Quinn, set in the glittering — and ruthless — world of 19th-century London high society.

Netflix will release Season 4 on January 29, and fans won’t have to say goodbye anytime soon: seasons five and six are already officially confirmed.
If Paris was any indication, the Bridgerton obsession is only getting stronger.
