Claudia Jessie may spend her days in corsets and gowns on screen, but she leaves that world behind once filming ends. The 36-year-old actor, who plays Eloise Bridgerton on the hit series Bridgerton, says her personal style could not be more different from her character’s carefully styled Regency look.
Speaking at the season four premiere in Paris, Jessie shared that she has not taken any fashion habits from the show into her everyday life.
“I feel like in our real life, have we started wearing corsets or been inspired by it in our real life? I've got to be honest. I want to get straight into a tracksuit as soon as I'm done [filming],” she said with a laugh.
Comfort Comes First Off Camera
Jessie, who has played Eloise Bridgerton for nearly six years, said comfort takes priority once the cameras stop rolling. While the show celebrates elaborate fashion, she prefers relaxed clothing when she returns to normal life.
Still, she admitted she finds the idea of mixing eras amusing. “Although, I'll tell you what, I wouldn't mind turning up in a pub just dressed like full Regency [era-inspired]. See what happens. Just go loose,” she added.
Costumes That Define the Series
Since the show’s debut in 2020, grand ball gowns, corsets, and pastel colours have become a major part of its identity. Alongside dramatic romance and orchestral versions of modern pop songs, the costumes help transport viewers into the fictional world of Regency-era London.
The show’s costume designers have said they looked to historical paintings and sketches for inspiration but did not aim for perfect accuracy. Instead, they focused on creating looks that felt elegant and modern while still fitting the period setting. Over the seasons, thousands of costume pieces appeared on screen, from dresses and coats to hats and shawls.
Life Inside the Dresses
Despite their detailed appearance, Jessie previously said the costumes feel more comfortable than many people expect. She explained that most of the challenge comes from what sits underneath the dresses rather than the gowns themselves.
“The action is going on underneath,” she said. “What I do have is Spanx tights and then a mic pack on my thigh, so actually, my biggest struggle is going for a wee.”
Season Four and What Lies Ahead
Part one of season four premieres on January 29 and already has fans talking. The new season introduces Sophie Baek, played by Yerin Ha, and follows her growing romance with Benedict Bridgerton, portrayed by Luke Thompson.
The show’s leadership has also hinted at future plans. At the season four premiere, showrunner Jess Brownell appeared with an embroidered pocket square featuring the letters “E” and “F.” The detail confirmed that Eloise and Francesca Bridgerton will take on larger roles in upcoming seasons.
Brownell teased fans with just enough detail to spark excitement. “In what order? I can’t say,” she said, while confirming that both sisters will feature more strongly in seasons five and six.
