Pam Millage of Calgary never expected to win big while shopping for a kayak. She and her daughter visited London Drugs to buy a kayak on sale. At the checkout, Millage decided on a whim to buy a $10 In the Money Multiplier scratch ticket.
“If we hadn’t bought the kayak, I never would have bought the ticket at the checkout, and I never would have won,” Millage said.
The Moment of Surprise
Millage was stunned when she scratched the ticket and realized she had won $1 million.
“I had to double-check to be sure I was seeing it right,” she said.
She first shared the news with her children. “I called and made them guess how much I’d won,” she added.
A Million Reasons to Celebrate
Millage reflected on how everything lined up for this win. “There were many little things that lined up for this to happen. Well—a million, probably,” she said.
While she hasn’t finalized all her plans, she has some ideas for the money. One priority may be helping her son with a broken-down car.
Future Plans
“My husband and I are thinking about a trip overseas to see one of our kids as well,” Millage shared.
Despite the sudden windfall, she seems focused on practical and family-centered uses for her winnings. The lucky day started as a simple shopping trip but ended with a life-changing surprise.
