Quarterfinal action at the IIHF World Championship exploded with a jaw-dropping moment as Denmark stunned Canada with a dramatic 2-1 victory. The game, played at Jyske Bank Boxen, saw the underdog Danes pull off a result few could have predicted, sending one of the tournament favorites home.

The first two periods were goalless but tense. Canada finally broke the deadlock early in the third. However, Denmark wasn’t done. With just over two minutes left, they equalized. Then, with only 49 seconds on the clock, they scored the winner, sealing one of the most thrilling upsets in tournament history.

Canada, featuring NHL talent like Canadiens defenseman Mike Matheson, couldn’t regain control. Matheson wrapped up the tournament with two assists over eight games. Denmark’s last-minute heroics delivered the day’s biggest shock—and one of the most memorable moments of the championship.

Sweden Outclasses Czechia to Reach Semifinals
Sweden looked like true title contenders in their 5-2 win over Czechia. A blistering first period saw them take a 3-0 lead, leaving the defending champions scrambling.

Leo Carlsson and Lucas Raymond were unstoppable, each netting two goals. Filip Forsberg added another in the third to ice the win. The Swedes never lost momentum, controlling the game from start to finish.

Montreal Canadiens prospect Emil Heineman logged 10:02 of ice time, firing two shots on goal. Sweden now advances with confidence to the semifinals, chasing their next title.

Switzerland Blanks Austria with Clinical 6-0 Win
Switzerland left no doubt in their quarterfinal match, dismantling Austria with a clean 6-0 shutout. From the first puck drop, the Swiss dominated, scoring early and shutting down Austria’s offense completely.

Austria managed only 13 shots on goal, overwhelmed by the Swiss pressure. One of their few bright spots, Vinzenz Rohrer, was ejected late in the first period after a five-minute major. Rohrer still finished the tournament tied as Austria’s top scorer, with four goals and two assists in eight games.

Switzerland now looks ahead, aiming to carry their momentum into the next round.

USA Rallies to Eliminate Finland
The United States kept their championship hopes alive with a dramatic comeback against Finland. After falling behind, the Americans rallied to turn the game around and secure their place in the semifinals.

The comeback was built on grit and determination, with the U.S. pushing back hard in the second half. Their physical play and aggressive offense paid off, leaving Finland stunned and eliminated.

The U.S. squad, now riding high, joins Sweden, Denmark, and Switzerland in the final four.

Semifinal Showdown Set: New Contenders Rise
As the dust settles on a thrilling quarterfinal Thursday, the IIHF World Championship semifinals promise more surprises. Denmark’s storybook upset, Sweden’s domination, Switzerland’s control, and the U.S. comeback set the stage for a dramatic finale.

Hockey fans around the globe are in for an exciting finish, with new heroes rising and giants falling. With powerhouse Canada gone, the path to gold is wide open—and every team left believes this could be their year.
