The Canadian government is stepping up its support for the food manufacturing industry by investing in innovation and technology, ensuring its growth and competitiveness on the global stage. This sector is crucial to Canada’s economy and a major source of employment across the country.
In a recent announcement, Karina Gould, Leader of the Government in the House of Commons, revealed a significant $27 million investment in Bartek Ingredients Inc., a leader in food-grade acid production. This financial boost is aimed at supporting Bartek's ambitious $192.5 million project to build a state-of-the-art food ingredient manufacturing facility. The new facility, located in Hamilton, will not only help secure 160 jobs but will also bolster Canada’s leadership in food ingredient manufacturing.

Bartek’s new facility is set to become the first of its kind in the world. It will feature cutting-edge equipment and modern innovations, enhancing the company's capacity for product development and energy management. The facility will be crucial in producing acidulants, which are essential to the food processing industry in Canada. These acidulants play an important role in ensuring the quality and safety of the food Canadians consume daily. By producing these items domestically, Canada can strengthen its food supply chain and reduce its reliance on imports.

A key aspect of this investment is its environmental focus. The new plant will significantly reduce Bartek’s greenhouse gas emissions and water usage, helping to meet Canada’s carbon neutrality goals. This aligns with the government’s broader strategy of advancing green technologies and reducing the environmental footprint of its industries.

The new manufacturing facility will also promote job growth and further Canada’s position as a leader in food ingredient manufacturing. The construction and operation of the facility will support ongoing research into food products, helping to drive innovation within the sector. By investing in these cutting-edge projects, the government is not only helping businesses grow but also contributing to the long-term sustainability of Canada's food manufacturing industry.

The $27 million investment in Bartek Ingredients Inc. is a vital step in boosting Canada’s food manufacturing sector. It will enhance innovation, reduce environmental impact, and maintain well-paying jobs in Hamilton, strengthening Canada’s position in the global food industry. This project will also contribute to the government’s goal of carbon neutrality while ensuring the continued growth of the food sector.
