Canada's rising tennis star Marina Stakusic and her Russian partner, Valeria Savinykh, bowed out of the Guadalajara Open after losing their quarterfinal match on Wednesday. The duo faced stiff competition from Oksana Kalashnikova of Georgia and Kamilla Rakhimova of Russia, who won the match in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
The fourth-seeded Kalashnikova and Rakhimova dominated the match, converting four out of their eight breakpoint opportunities, allowing them to seize control in just 68 minutes. Stakusic, a promising 19-year-old from Mississauga, Ontario, and Savinykh fought hard but couldn't overcome the strong play of their opponents.

Before this match, Stakusic and Savinykh had shown their strength by defeating Americans Alana Smith and Anna Rogers in the round of 16. However, their journey came to a close in the quarterfinals, with Kalashnikova and Rakhimova advancing to the next stage of the tournament.

Despite the loss, Stakusic's time at the Guadalajara Open isn't over yet. She is set to face a much tougher challenge in the women's singles competition, where she will meet Latvia’s Jelena Ostapenko, the tournament's top seed. Ostapenko ranked sixth in the world, poses a formidable challenge for Stakusic, who currently holds the 155th spot in the global rankings.

As Stakusic continues to develop her skills on the international stage, her participation in high-profile tournaments like the Guadalajara Open is invaluable experience. The young Canadian's performance in both singles and doubles matches will likely bolster her confidence as she aims for higher rankings and deeper runs in future competitions.
