In tragic news from Lake George, New York, Global Affairs Canada has confirmed that a Canadian citizen lost their life in a tour bus accident that occurred last Friday. The department is also actively monitoring the situation as it relates to two other Canadians who sustained injuries in the incident, and they are currently working to verify the potential involvement of additional Canadian nationals.

The unfortunate incident unfolded when a Skyway Coach Line tour bus, en route from Montreal to New York City, crashed on U.S. Highway 87. According to the New York State Police, the accident resulted in the death of one person, while 11 others suffered injuries. The injured individuals, one of whom sustained serious injuries, were promptly transported to nearby hospitals for medical attention.

Officials in New York later disclosed that the majority of the 23 passengers on the bus were Canadian, emphasizing the international nature of the travelers. Additionally, at least two passengers were reported to be Swiss nationals.

Global Affairs Canada has stepped in to offer consular assistance to the family of the deceased Canadian citizen. However, in respect of privacy concerns, the department has refrained from providing further details regarding the individual.

As the investigation into the incident continues, Global Affairs remains committed to keeping a close eye on the situation and ensuring that any Canadians affected receive the necessary support. The report on this unfortunate event was initially released by The Canadian Press on January 7, 2024. Our thoughts are with the affected individuals and their families during this difficult time.
