Taco lovers across the country can prepare for a delicious celebration as National Taco Day arrives on Tuesday, October 7, 2025. This year’s event brings extra excitement, as it now officially falls on a Tuesday every year—perfectly matching the long-loved Taco Tuesday tradition.
Until last year, National Taco Day always took place on October 4, no matter the weekday. In 2024, the National Day Calendar—the group that tracks special observances—decided to shift the celebration to the first Tuesday of October.
The change came after a proposal from Taco Bell, which wanted the date to permanently align with Taco Tuesday deals and restaurant promotions.
Why the Date Changed
Taco Bell’s Chief Marketing Officer, Taylor Montgomery, explained, “We learned about the magic of the National Day Calendar, and made our case to move one of the biggest taco holidays of the year so that it would always land on the best taco day of the week – and now, we’re able to celebrate National Taco Day on Taco Tuesday this year, and every year in the future.”
However, before the move could happen, the trademark for the phrase Taco Tuesday needed to be released. The rights belonged to Taco John’s, a restaurant chain that had held ownership of the phrase for decades.
In July 2023, Taco John’s agreed to give up the trademark after Taco Bell launched an online petition calling for the term to be shared. This allowed all restaurants to use the phrase freely and celebrate the taco in their own unique ways.
Deals and Discounts
To make the celebration even better, Taco Bell will roll out a list of exclusive offers for National Taco Day. The deals, available only to members of the Taco Bell Rewards program through its mobile app, include $1 tacos, $5 off Party Packs, and a buy-one-get-one-free taco offer through DoorDash.
Starting at noon Eastern Time on October 7, Taco Bell will also give away limited-edition T-shirts, with new deals dropping every other hour.
A Day for Taco Fans Everywhere
The celebration goes beyond one restaurant chain. Many local spots and food lovers plan to join in the fun with their own specials, recipes, and gatherings. Whether filled with beef, chicken, fish, or vegetables, tacos have earned their place as one of the most loved foods worldwide.
As National Taco Day returns, it promises a full day of flavour, fun, and plenty of tortillas—making this year’s Taco Tuesday one to savour.
