The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) has issued a recall alert for several Silk and Great Value brand plant-based refrigerated beverages, citing concerns over Listeria contamination.
The affected products include various varieties of Silk brand almond milk, coconut milk, almond-coconut milk, and oat milk, along with Great Value brand almond milk. This action follows an investigation into a foodborne illness outbreak linked to these items, with reported cases of illness associated with their consumption.
Listeria contamination is particularly dangerous as it may not be detectable by sight or smell in food, yet can cause severe illness. Symptoms of Listeria infection can include vomiting, nausea, persistent fever, muscle aches, severe headache, and neck stiffness.
Consumers are urged to check their refrigerators for the recalled products, which typically bear best-before dates up to October 4. If you believe you have consumed any of the affected items and are experiencing symptoms, it is important to seek medical advice promptly.
To prevent further risk, the CFIA advises either discarding the recalled products or returning them to the place of purchase for a refund.
