Sony Pictures has unveiled the first teaser for 28 Years Later, the much-anticipated sequel to Danny Boyle’s iconic zombie apocalypse series.

The teaser is shrouded in mystery, featuring mostly black screens, eerie Morse code sounds, and brief glimpses of an island connected by a land bridge. Other haunting visuals include crucifix-like figures (possibly zombies), red skulls, and contamination symbols, adding to the unsettling atmosphere.

In an unusual move, the studio opted not to include the film’s title or description in the YouTube upload. However, the teaser was shared on the official 28 Years Later account on X (formerly Twitter), sparking intrigue online. Fans have speculated that the island shown in the footage might be Lindisfarne in Northumberland, a location that seems like a strategic refuge during a zombie outbreak.

The film’s official synopsis reveals that the story picks up long after the events of 28 Weeks Later. The Rage Virus has reemerged, and a group of survivors struggles to endure in a world overrun by the infected.

Cillian Murphy reprises his role from the original 28 Days Later (2002) and is joined by an impressive cast, including Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Jodie Comer, Ralph Fiennes, Jack O’Connell, Erin Kellyman, and Edvin Ryding. The script reunites Boyle with Alex Garland, the writer of the first film, promising a continuation that stays true to its roots.

Adding to the excitement, reports indicate that 28 Years Later was filmed alongside another sequel, 28 Years Later Part II: The Bone Temple. This installment is directed by Nia DaCosta, with Boyle and Garland collaborating on the script and Murphy returning for a key role.

Fans of the franchise can mark their calendars for the film’s release on June 20, 2025.
