COBS Bread will mark the return of its annual Doughnation Day this weekend as bakeries across Canada join a nationwide effort to support local charities. The campaign enters its sixth year and aims to raise $500,000 for more than 100 community organizations.
Fundraising activities began on February 7, but the main event will take place on Saturday, March 7, when customers can contribute simply by purchasing a popular bakery item.
Hot Cross Buns Help Support Local Causes
On Doughnation Day, every purchase of a six-pack of hot cross buns will help raise money for charity. COBS Bread will donate $2 from each six-pack sold at its more than 180 bakery locations across Canada.
Customers can choose from several freshly baked flavours, including Traditional Fruit, Cranberry Orange, and Apple Cinnamon.
Anyone who wants to support the cause can also donate online through the campaign’s official pledge page. Online contributions will support the company’s national charity partner, Second Harvest, which works to reduce food insecurity across the country.
The campaign encourages Canadians to take part in a simple way — by buying baked goods or making a small online donation.
A Tradition That Continues to Grow
Doughnation Day has become an important annual event for the bakery chain and its communities.
Over the past five years, the campaign has raised more than $1.5 million for charitable organizations. Last year alone, the initiative brought in over $400,000 to support community programs.
Local bakeries partner with organizations in their own communities, ensuring that funds raised in each area stay close to home.
This approach allows neighbourhood bakeries and customers to support charities that directly serve the people around them.
Communities Come Together Each Year
Aaron Gillespie, President at COBS Bread, said the event holds special meaning for staff and customers across the country.
"Doughnation Day is an annual tradition our bakeries look forward to every year as a way to offer support to their local community," says Aaron Gillespie, President at COBS Bread. "Having raised over $1.5 million to date, we've seen firsthand how a simple act of buying a six-pack of hot cross buns can make a difference. We are excited to see our local communities come together again on March 7th to help us surpass our goal."
The company hopes strong community participation this year will help the campaign reach — and possibly exceed — its $500,000 fundraising target.
How Canadians Can Participate
Supporters can join the initiative in two simple ways. Customers can visit their local bakery on March 7 and purchase hot cross buns, or they can make a donation through the campaign’s online pledge page.
Each contribution, no matter the size, moves the campaign closer to its goal of helping charities that provide essential services in communities across Canada.
With hundreds of bakeries taking part nationwide, organizers expect Doughnation Day to once again bring Canadians together for a shared cause.
